Sleep Apnea and TMJ Dental Group sees patients from across Los Angeles County at its office in West Hills, in the west San Fernando Valley. The practice focuses first on dental sleep medicine — oral appliance therapy for obstructive sleep apnea and snoring — and then on temporomandibular disorders (TMJ/TMD) and other orofacial pain. It does not provide general dentistry; your own dentist continues your routine care.
Care is provided by Dr. Mohammad Masudian, DDS, MPH, a Diplomate, American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine who completed a CODA-accredited certificate program in orofacial pain at the University of Southern California.
Oral appliance therapy for sleep apnea
Obstructive sleep apnea is diagnosed by a physician with a home or in-lab sleep study. For adults with a diagnosis, a custom oral appliance that holds the lower jaw forward is an established treatment, and it is a common choice for people who cannot tolerate CPAP. The practice works with the diagnosing physician, adjusts the appliance over several visits, and confirms the result with follow-up testing ordered by that physician.
TMJ and TMD pain
Jaw pain, clicking, locking and limited opening have several distinct causes — jaw muscle pain, displacement of the joint disc, and joint degeneration are managed differently. The evaluation uses standardized diagnostic criteria, and treatment is conservative and reversible before anything irreversible is considered.
