Thousand Oaks and the Conejo Valley
Patients from Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Westlake Village and Agoura Hills are seen at the practice’s office in West Hills, at Community Medical Center, 23101 Sherman Pl, Suite 415. The practice is limited to jaw and facial pain, headache with orofacial involvement, and sleep-related breathing disorders; it does not provide general dentistry, so your own dentist continues your routine care.
Care is provided by Dr. Mohammad Masudian, DDS, MPH, who completed a CODA-accredited certificate program in orofacial pain at the University of Southern California and is a Diplomate, American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine.
Why See an Orofacial Pain Specialist
Most general dental offices are set up to treat teeth and gums. Pain that comes from the jaw muscles, the jaw joint or the nerves of the face follows different rules, and treating it as a tooth problem can lead to dental work that does not help. An orofacial pain evaluation is aimed at finding the actual source before any treatment is chosen.
It is worth arranging when jaw or facial pain has lasted more than a few weeks, when the jaw catches, locks or will not open fully, or when a dentist has found no dental cause for tooth or face pain.

Common Questions
Do I need a referral?
Patients may call directly. Physicians and dentists can also refer through the provider referral form.
What should I bring to the first visit?
A list of medications, any prior jaw or dental imaging, and, for snoring or sleep apnea, a copy of any sleep study you have had. Records from previous treatment for jaw or facial pain are also helpful.
Do I need a sleep study before an oral appliance?
Yes. Obstructive sleep apnea must be diagnosed by a physician with a sleep study before an oral appliance is made. If you have not had one, the practice can coordinate with your physician.
How many visits does treatment take?
It depends on the diagnosis. The first visit is an evaluation; an oral appliance typically needs a fitting and follow-up adjustment visits, and jaw pain care is reviewed at intervals to confirm it is working.
